Exploring Library Programs and Services
List three programs and
three services that are not offered by your library that you find interesting.
These do not have to be core programs or services.
Student Patron College Survival Skills Seminar/Scholarship
Seminar –
This is a program
where student patrons can come and get information about what to expect during
their freshmen year of college. It also provides students with information
regarding scholarships and grant program they can apply to for potential
financial aid opportunities.
Samsung and Google Cardboard VR Systems –
This is a virtual
reality system that student patrons can access during their library visits where
they can take part in different educational activities and learning experiences
through the goggles. This is a service that will help student patrons
experience an out of the box kind of learning experience. It also supports the ideology
that traditional libraries are being transformed into media centers with all of
the new modern technology integration.
Makerspace Centers and Workshops –
These are spaces that are
converted into centers within a library that promote creativity and problem-solving
skills. Sometimes
it might include things like cardboard and duct tape, and other times it might
consist of items like laptops, microphones, and green screens. A makerspace can
take the form of a mobile cart that can be shared between classrooms, a set of
stations that students rotate between, or a variety of materials and equipment
that live in various parts of the classroom, accessible to students when the
need arises. Ultimately it gives students the ability and safe space to
collaborate and bring their ideas and sometimes even their aspirations to life.
How do they support the mission and
goals of your library?
The
mission of Peachcrest Elementary School Library Media program is to provide
students with the opportunity to become not only lifelong users of information,
but also creators of information. The
library will support the curriculum by collaborating with teachers, developing
a collection that is representative of the community, and implementing literacy
instruction for students. I think the patrons of this
library would appreciate a blog that keeps them connect to all things regarding
the Peachcrest LMC. All three of the programs that I listed support this
mission by allowing the patrons to be creators of information and gives them an
opportunity to become lifelong effective researchers.
