Peachcrest Elementary Library Media Center

Greetings Future Librarians!

I live in Atlanta Georgia and work in the DeKalb County School District. One of the libraries I currently service is the Peachcrest Elementary Library Media Center. The Peachcrest Elementary School LMC services students from Pre-K through 5th grade. It is equipped with state of the art desktop computers, and iPads that the student’s faculty and staff can utilize to access resources, eBooks, and so much more. The library’s website is:

There are so many different activities and events that take place at the Peachcrest Elementary LMC. From Reading Palooza, to story time, book character day, book club, reading bowl club, the spelling bee, technology club, robotics club, and so much more. The collection is comprised of a variety of different childhood titles. We have easy readers for are younger students and chapter books for our older students. There are also conference rooms that students and faculty members can use for meetings and collaborative planning opportunities. The library is very new since the school just opened in 2015. It is a very large open space surrounded by glass windows that allow the natural light from the day to come through the library.

The library currently does not have a blog, so this one will be the first for the Peachcrest LMC. The library is staffed by the teacher librarian and myself the library media assistant. We keep things running smoothly and help students, faculty, and staff find whatever they need to be successful. I think a blog would benefit this library media center greatly because it will provide parents and community members with information about what is happening on a daily basis inside of the Peachcrest LMC.

The mission of Peachcrest Elementary School Library Media program is to provide students with the opportunity to become not only lifelong users of information, but also creators of information.  The library will support the curriculum by collaborating with teachers, developing a collection that is representative of the community, and implementing literacy instruction for students. I think the patrons of this library would appreciate a blog that keeps them connect to all things regarding the Peachcrest LMC.
Thanks for Reading!
